How cool would it be for Doyle Brunson to win a record-tying 11th WSOP gold bracelet in London? Just about everybody on the poker planet is pulling for 'Dolly' except his opponents perhaps (and even a few of those would certainly make Doyle their favorite pick if they can't win themselves). Doyle remains "The Man".
There may be thousands of quasi-Cincinnati Kids out there, but there is only one figurative Lancey Howard sitting in our game and he'll sit down tomorrow with about an average-sized stack of 246,500 hoping to write yet another memorable chapter in what has been an astounding life.
Doyle has now made it into the money in the WSOP Europe Main Event, proving yet again that he hasn't lost a step after sixty years in the game. His play today will be followed closely by countless fans around the globe who look to him for inspiration. May we all have Doyle's grit and determination when we reach our twilight years. Go Doyle!
Liz Lieu last woman standing at WSOPE
Liz Lieu has been called "the best female poker player not to have won a WSOP gold bracelet." While some may argue that distinction, there's no disputing Lieu's incredible table talent. She has played high stakes poker for many years and has performed quite well in major tournaments.
Lieu, from Las Vegas, is the last remaining female player in this year's WSOPE Main Event. If she wins, she would become the second female winner at WSOPE.
The first year of the tournament, Annette Obrestad, from Norway, won the championship. Lieu has some serious catching up to do and must perform well on Day Four, which begins today.
She currently ranks 26th out of 36 players who remain.

You don't have to wait outside of Buckingham Palace to spot royalty in London. UltimateBet's Phil Hellmuth, arguably one of the kings of the poker world, made his grand entrance to this year's World Series of Poker Europe dressed up as a Roman emperor.
Dressed as Julius Caesar, Hellmuth made his way to the Rio in Las Vegas for the WSOP protected by Roman guards and surrounded by muses throwing rose petals, all of who were outfitted only in body paint. The over-the-top entrance was in keeping with UltimateBet's 2009 WSOP theme. Celebrating its 10th anniversary dealing cards online, the online poker site invited poker players to join its empire in Vegas and compete for a $10 million Main Event bonus.
Phil Hellmuth doesn't reserve his grand entrances exclusively for Las Vegas. In 2008, UltimateBet held a Phil Hellmuth lookalike contest and invited London locals to show up to the WSOPE dressed as the 11-time WSOP bracelet winner.
In 2007, Phil Hellmuth grabbed the European media spotlight once again as he toured London's most famous sights aboard a Hellmuth-branded double-decker bus, accompanied by 12 models.

The first tournament on the 2009 World Series of Poker Europe schedule has set a new attendance record. With 608 entrants, the $1,600 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tournament is the largest poker competition ever held in London. The previous high mark for a WSOPE event had been 410 players, set during the 2008 opening event. The previous attendance record for a London-based poker tournament had been 596 players, set at last year's European Poker Tour (EPT) final.
The record figure is startling, considering the WSOPE is only in its third season. In fact, 608 entrants for the opening event of 2009 nearly equals the 623 total players who participated in all three events held during the first season. Indeed, WSOP Europe presented by Betfair has come a very long way in just two years.
The impressive London attendance figure is but one of several records which were broken during the 2009 WSOP. Three months ago, several tournaments in Las Vegas attracted the largest fields in their history. Many events also generated the largest prize pools ever. The bottom line is, World Series of Poker tournaments continue to be the premier destination for poker players all around the world. ___________________
