Phil Hellmuth :
Professional Poker Player

Professional Poker Player Phil
Hellmuth has a record of nine gold bracelets (tying with
Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan) and is one of the all
time top money winners.
This Poker professional is one of the most successful
tournament poker player of all time and has won more
money in tournaments in the last 10 years than any other
player.
As a student at the University of Wisconsin
in 1985, Phil Hellmuth discovered poker while studying and then
continued on, at the age of 24 years old, to become
the youngest professional poker player to ever win the World Series in
1989.
Born in Madison, Wisconsin and currently lives
in Palo Alto, California, he travels the tournament
circuit for larger buy-in events and is a spokesman
for the online card-room Ultimate Bet.
Phil Hellmuth has written a book called "Play Poker Like the
Pros", released with moderately warm reviews. This Professional poker playeralso is reputed to be a poker hellion . He is constantly griping about his opponent’s style of playing.
His poor attitude will, unfortunately, detract from
his image as one of the great poker players.
His goal
is to be the best poker player of all time. Phil Hellmuth stated "Being a professional poker player has been very difficult for me. In what other profession can you be
at the top and have so many unsatisfying moments? Losing
all of your money comes with the territory when you're
playing poker for a living. The highs are great: winning
world championships and having hundreds of thousands
of dollars flow to you."
"But the lows are awful. The level of frustration involved
with going broke is incredible. Not being able to pay the bills
or even ante up in a poker game is tragic for a great poker
player. Being a champion is all about how you deal with the
bad times. During the bad times you must improve yourself
and grow as a person. During the bad times you better figure
out a way to handle your next upswing better than the
last time. During the bad times I become focused,
clear minded, disciplined and hungry. It is all about using
the pain at the bottom to improve, and propel yourself
back to the top."
