Layne Flack was born in South Dakota , but lived most of life in Montana . From childhood, he started playing poker, learning the game from his grandparents.

Like most players, he has had his share of ups and downs. One example is, after winning a sizeable amount of money, as a professional poker player, from a tournament, he ended up losing a good chunk of it in a side game.

Poker player Layne Flack holds 5 WSOP bracelets, 2 of which ($2000 No Limit Hold'em and $1,500 No Limit) he won at the 2002 championship, where he earned his nickname "Back To back Flack". He has also made appearances in the WPT.

Among Layne Flack's poker peers, Johnny Chan has become a close friend and mentor, giving him advice and helping him to improve his poker game and in his career as a professional poker player.
